COACH SAM SHARP

I am a USATF Level 2 certified track & field coach and have competed in events from the 100m to the marathon. An injury ended my competitive running career at the University of South Carolina with personal bests of 1:54 for 800m and 15:57 for cross country 5K. I have won races or taken age group honors on the track, road, grass, and dirt, and still hold several school records at Cincinnati’s renowned Moeller High School. I started competing in USATF Masters Track events in 2021. I am a Masters 7x national champion, 9x regional champion, and 8x All-American across the 800, 1500, 3000, and 5000m.

I serve as the Head Cross Country and Head Track & Field Coach for Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA and am member of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), a TrainingPeaks Level 2 Accredited Coach, and a Gold Tier coach on CoachUp. I hold Jumping Events Specialist and Strength & Conditioning Coach Certifications from the USTFCCCA.

I coach athletes nationwide to share my knowledge and passion for running to help others improve and find their best running selves. Most in-person athletes are based in Northern Virginia or D.C. My coaching philosophy emphasizes overall athleticism, proper running technique, and goal-oriented training. I want you to enjoy the thrill of competition and the sense of accomplishment that makes our sport so great. You can read more about what’s important to me as a coach here.

I work with new and experienced athletes focusing on track events (sprints, distance, hurdles, long jump, triple jump) and road racing up to the marathon. I write customized training plans and monitor athlete performance through TrainingPeaks. You can view my own workouts on Strava here.
