Runner’s Food Journal No. 4

Athletes sometimes ask for nutritional guidance or just want to know what I eat during a regular day. Below is a food journal from a typical weekday:

MORNING

Two mugs of black coffee

Toast with crunchy peanut butter, pumpkin puree, and cinnamon

Activity #1 - 4 mile fartlek run, followed by barbell lifts (back squat, overhead lunges, power cleans)

Two bowls of Total cereal with 2% milk

AFTERNOON

Banana

Salad - spinach, broccoli, carrots, cherry tomatoes, lite creamy caesar dressing

Slices of fresh baguette

Two mugs of black coffee

Apple

Activity #2 - Coach track practice

Handfuls of trail mix (almonds, roasted edamame, pumpkin seeds, cashews, golden raisins)

EVENING

Roasted chicken sandwich, baked french fries
